In one of the strangest instances of the worlds of football and music colliding that we can think of, Dion Dublin became an honorary member of Ocean Colour Scene for their gig at Norwich’s University of East Anglia on Monday night.
The ex-Manchester United, Coventry City and Norwich striker took to the stage to play the Dube on the band’s hits You’ve Got It Bad and Profit In Peace. For those of you who have missed him flogging it around various TV slots, the Dube is a percussion instrument invented by Dublin.
Dublin’s connection to the gig was that support act The Establishment (previously featured on OTP because ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder John Burns plays in the band and got the PFA to round up a star-studded cast for their videoshoot) are signed to his Cubit Recordings label.
If that wasn’t enough strange football/musical connections for you already, Dublin brought along Darren Huckerby for moral support. Huckerby stood stageside as Dion rocked his Dube.
