A Manchester City employee has been ordered to shut-down his Facebook account by the club after a series of foul-mouthed outbursts towards Manchester United hit the headlines. Ged Coyne, City’s groundsman for 15 years, was told to remove his ‘Ged Coyne MrManchestercity’ account amid fears his comments could stoke up yet more ill-feeling ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby.
Among the repeatable comments were ones referring to United’s manager as “Alex purple-head Ferguscum” and another describing Old Trafford as “the Theatre of Complete Tosspots”. Newly-retired Gary Neville also came in for some abuse.
A City spokesman said: “The member of staff in question regrets posting the material and removed it immediately.”
The club has now published a staff booklet to advise club employees, including players, on using social media sites.
