El Nino on his transfer
A tired Fernando Torres squeezed in an exclusive interview with Chelsea TV before heading to bed after completing his £50 million transfer to the west London club. And he made some pretty thinly-veiled digs at the way Liverpool have regressed in recent seasons and the lack of Champions League football on offer at Anfield.
He said: “I’m really happy and I’m sure I’m doing one big step forward in my career joining a club like Chelsea. I just want to be at the level I am supposed to stay.”
Any Liverpool fan with an ounce of realism knew why he was leaving, but it is still likely to hurt to have it spelt out in such uncertain terms.
He continued: “It’s always very tough to play against Chelsea, they are one of the biggest teams in Europe, always fighting for everything. So after that there is no more to look forward — it’s the top level and this is the target for every footballer. To play in one of the top level clubs in the world and I can do it now, so I have to be very happy, as I am.”
It is going to be weird seeing Torres in a blue kit. He has had a pretty red-centric career so far.
