Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola ramped up the Champions League mind-games ahead of tonight’s second-leg against Arsenal by claiming Jack Wilshere would be languishing in his reserves if he played for the Catalan club.

The Barca boss managed to take a decent dig at both Wilshere and the Gunners in the same sentence, claiming the young England star has only had the chance to bed into the side because there is no pressure to win trophies at Arsenal.

He said: “Wilshere is a top player, and has been a big, big surprise. I didn’t know him at the start of the season. In the first game he had a really good performance.

“He can be great player for Arsenal and England, but we have many types of player like him in the second team.

“He’s lucky, as Arsenal have time. There is not the pressure to win titles as quickly as possible. We have second-team players like him.”

If Wenger feels like getting his claws out he might suggest that Barca won’t have such talent in the reserves for too long as he will be snapping them all up on the cheap!
