Kolo Toure has been suspended by Manchester City after failing a drugs test.
The 29-year-old has received confirmation from the FA that an A sample he provided had tested positive.
A statement released by the club said: “Manchester City confirm that the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an ‘A-sample’ provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance.
“As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first team and non-first team matches, pending the outcome of the legal process.
“There will be no further comment from the football club at this stage.”
No information on the substance involved has been made available at this stage. If his B sample is also returned positive, Toure could be banned from football for up to two years.
