Liverpool striker Andy Carroll earned himself a massively lukewarm reception from Fabio Capello by firing in the opening goal in England’s 1-1 draw with Ghana last night.
It was Carroll’s first goal for his country.
But after the match, Capello said: “He scored a good goal but he needs to improve. He’s not the same Carroll I remember, he needs games. I hope he’ll be back to his best for Switzerland in June.”
It seems Fabio is not going to be overly forthcoming with compliments for his young striker. He spent time before the match claiming that Carroll must cut out booze to reach his potential, and the run-up to his debut against France last year was dominated by Capello voicing concerns over Carroll’s discipline.
