An early, but very crowded bath
A referee in Argentina’s fifth division has broken the world record for most red cards in a match after showing 36 during a match on Tuesday. Damian Rubino dismissed all 22 players from Claypole and Victoriano Arenas, plus their substitutes and coaching staff.
The tetchy match was marred by scuffles and handbags. One player was sent-off for a second bookable offence for dissent after being booked for his role in a set-to. Another player was then dismissed for his behaviour during half-time as he tried to pick a fight.
In the second-half the match eventually descended into an all-in brawl. Rubino’s match report confirmed that he had red-carded all the players and technical staff during the incident.
Victoriano Arenas coach Domingo Sganga revealed he begged police to lock Claypole’s players in their dressing room as he feared for his life. He said: “They wanted to kill me.”
