Fog-gia of war
The Italian Lega Promo Prima Divisione B match between Foggia and Gela descended into hand-to-hand combat after a bizarre shunning of fair play conventions. Gela were leading 2-1 with five minutes on the clock when Foggia’s Bartosz Salomon went down with an injury.
Gela sportingly put the ball out of play for a throw-in, but were soon wishing they hadn’t bothered. Rather than waiting for Salomon to receive treatment, Foggia took a quick throw-in which resulted in Marco Sau grabbing an equaliser.
That sparked a brawl in which both Foggia players and the referee were both fair game.
