Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson quits Twitter after two hours over abuse
Darron Gibson signed up for Twitter yesterday – and then quite within a couple hours after being hit with a raft of abuse. The ill-feeling was predominantly from Manchester United supporters less than impressed with Gibson’s midfield performances, but also from Northern Ireland fans still upset at his decision to represent the Republic of Ireland.
Gibson has since put out word via Rio Ferdinand that he simply “couldn’t be bothered with it”, and via The Times’ Oliver Kay that he was being driven nuts by the volume of incoming messages.
Nonetheless, it seems likely that the amount of vitriol he attracted in such a short space of time was at least partly responsible for @DGibbo28’s very short lifespan.
