Two Italian clubs seized in mafia raids
Italian fourth division clubs Cittanova Interpiana (pictured) and Sapri have had their assets seized in a raid on an Italian mafia gang.
Police in Calabria have seized hundreds of millions of dollars of assets believed to belong to the notorious ‘Ndrangheta mafia, including businesses, properties, vehicles, land and the football clubs.
Investigators claim the mafia had used its involvement in both clubs to gain public support across Calabria.
When they are not dabbling in fourth-tier Italian football, the crime syndicate is reported to control much of Europe’s cocaine trade.
