Video: The away goal rule blows Iain Dowie’s mind

Dow did you work that out?

Sky Sports pundit Iain Dowie found himself in a bit of a mental arithmetic muddle as he tried to work out how many away goals Inter Milan would need in Schalke following their 2-5 defeat in the home leg.

You know your maths is questionable when Paul Merson has to dig you out of trouble. Either that or UEFA is trialling a new system we haven’t heard about whereby you have to score the sum of the goals scored in the first-leg in the second-leg in order to win the tie.

By the way, this is a man that several chairmen have trusted with millions of pounds!

What a fool. Maybe he thought away goals literally counted double?? (Which he shouldn’t seeing as he’s getting paid God-knows-how-much to talk with authority about Champions League football..)

But even if that was the case he’s still got his maths wrong cos Inter would need eight, not seven.

Conclusion: give me the bloody job!
