Creating Hassl for yourself

Football celebrations have gone all post-modern this week – and referees will not stand for it!

Hot on the heels of Neymar’s ‘would you still love my goalscoring exploits if I had an upside down face’ celebration comes Eric Hassli, of Vancouver Whitecaps, being red-carded for taking off his shirt to reveal an identical shirt underneath.

After converting a penalty, Hassli had removed his shirt and chucked it into the crowd. The Frenchman was wearing the short-sleeved version of the jersey.

Hassli was already on a yellow card and was inevitably sent-off for a second bookable offence. You and I both know that taking your shirt off is a yellow card offence, but Hassli claims he didn’t.

It also kind of rules out the argument that taking your shirt off is a heat of the moment reaction to scoring a goal if you’ve come prepared with a replacement shirt!

Wow! Referees really don’t possess any common sense do they.

I’ve actually wondered what would have if you did this. Hassli I salute you, you are a martyr
