Video: Velez Sarsfield’s Santiago Silva creates the Happy Birthday candle celebration
What, no cake?
Another strange goal celebration from South America. Santiago Silva, of Argentina’s Velez Sarsfield, fired a shot of Carroll-esque force into the net against Newell’s Old Boys. He then headed straight for the touchline, where health and safety regulations were already being disobeyed in preparation for his carefully orchestrated celebration.
By the time Silva arrived there was a lit birthday candle waiting for him. The gesture was in honour of team-mate Augusto Fernandez, who was celebrating his 25th birthday.
This got us thinking, even the most threadbare of football squads probably have about two birthdays a month on average. So if this takes off we could see this happening every couple of weeks at every football match. Perhaps the WAGs could send along some party bags…
At least Silva’s celebrations seem to be gradually getting more tasteful. You may recall we previously featured his heart attack celebration.
