Bet’s be ‘avin you: Football betting tips for 13-14th May
It is once again time to trawl the bookmakers, be enticed by the online equivalent of those tasty deals in the bookies window and, ultimately, put our money where our mouth is by offering up this selection of bets that we’ve made.
Our first bet this week focuses on the relegation battle in the Premier League. Wolves travel to the Stadium of Light knowing that they probably need at least a point to survive, preferably all three. Sunderland have stunk recently, but ruined my weekend by securing victory at Bolton last time out. Odds of better than evens for the Black Cats to beat Wolves at home looks good. And I am also including Blackpool as a double. I don’t particularly want them to win, but you can find 2.62 on them beating a Bolton side who seem to dreaming of the beetches on the beaches at the moment (as I discovered the hard, expensive way last week).
£10 on Blackpool and Sunderland to win gets you £58
Our second flutter moves around continental Europe quicker than chlamydia round a stag weekend. Firstly, Lille can wrap up the French title at home. Elsewhere, Bayern should be backed to continue their recent good form with a home win, and Barcelona can be inexplicably backed at 1.6 at home. One eye on the Champions League final, sure, but a home win should be a formality.
£10 on Lille, Bayern Munich and Barca gets you £31
We can’t ignore the play-offs and Scotland now, can we? I am backing a speculative little combination of a Huddersfield away win and Celtic to win by more than two goals. Celtic will be going all out against a Motherwell side that lost their last away game 4-0 at Dundee United, whereas Huddersfield were so close to automatic promotion that they are deserved favourites for play-off promotion.
£10 on Huddersfield to win and Celtic to win by more than 2 goals gets you £71
And finally, you just have to have a bet on the FA Cup final, don’t you? It would be rude not to. It’s a cheeky little speculative fiver for me, concerning Stoke’s goal machine Robert Huth. He has scored nine goals this season, and three of these have been in five FA Cup matches. Odds of 9/1 on him scoring anytime look generous on that basis, so we will have a bit of that.
£5 on Robert Huth to score anytime gets you £50
