A hotel that both FA Cup finalists wanted to stay in ahead of Saturday’s match has cancelled a prior reservation with Stoke City so that Manchester City can stay with them instead.
The Potters stayed at the luxury five-star hotel The Grove in Watford ahead of their semi-final victory over Bolton, and received confirmation of priority booking for the final. But they had not counted on Manchester City flexing their financial muscle.
It’s not just the transfer market where Citeh’s deep pockets give them the edge. Grove Hotel sales director Darren Hart emailed confirmation of Stoke’s priority booking for the final to the Potters after their quarter-final win over West Ham.
But after their semi-final they received a further email stating that the booking had “unfortunately” been cancelled.
According to The Sun, The Grove “deny any wrongdoing and that their Manchester City-supporting management had any influence on the outcome”.
It is the second time the hotel has cancelled a Stoke booking. They cancelled the Potters’ reservation ahead of a Premier League game two years ago so they could host a SEAT convention!
