Preston North End face new Blackpool jibe on TV’s Countdown

The priciness of relegation

Poor old Preston are getting it from every angle since their relegation to League One. Firstly, there was the plane flying over Deepdale trailing banners mocking North End’s plight. Now, they have faced more ridicule on national TV.

Quiz-show Countdown showed one of its trademark Countdown Conundrums anagrams which clearly read: “PNE CRISIS.”

Neither of the contestants solved the puzzle, but it turned out the answer was ‘priciness’. Any Preston supporters among the 750,000 who suspected a conspiracy were absolutely spot-on.

A spokeswoman for the show told the Mirror: “One of the production team is a Blackpool fan and it was intended as friendly banter.”

Definitely a greener prank than the plane and, as far as we are aware, this one hasn’t received any murder threats from Phil Brown at the moment.
