Video: Turkish side Karsiyaka kill a camel and smear its blood on their players
We all know that you supposedly have to make sacrifices in order to make the grade as a professional footballer, but this might be taking things a bit too far.
Fans of second-tier Turkish side Karsiyaka have got the hump at being forced to celebrate their centenary outside the Super Lig, so they decided to kill a camel and wipe its blood on the foreheads of the squad to help with their promotion push this season.
OTP reader Ulas Gursat drew our attention to this. He explains: “Muslims believe that sacrificing an animal brings good luck. That’s why they think this camel will help them to get promoted to the Super Lig.
“Also, applying the blood of a sacrifice brings good luck. That’s why they applied the camel’s blood to the foreheads of the players. As you can see some of the players are scared as hell!”
They certainly are. OTP isn’t sure Arsene Wenger is this desperate just yet but if he hasn’t signed a couple of players by transfer deadline day, camels of north London beware!
