Goal-line technology in the Premier League next season?

No help to Pedro Mendes

It is a debate that has rumbled on for years, but it appears that goal-line technology has come a step closer to being introduced into the Premier League.

FA Secretary Alex Horne has announced that systems are currently being thoroughly tested, and that there would be a change in the laws of the game for next season if testing proved fruitful.

“Goal-line technology would be a huge boost for the game. For years, we’ve thought this was a good addition to referees’ armoury. It’s possible we could see [goal-line technology] in the Premier League as early as 2012-13. It’s easy to make mistakes and we’ve all seen examples where the referee and assistant referee can’t see if a ball has crossed the line or not. We need to support them in decision-making.”

Nine systems of goal-line technology are being tested, which is impressive as we can only think of five, and one of those involves aliens.

The big question that springs to our mind is whether this would be happening if Lampard’s World Cup goal had been given?
