After Dani Alves and Thiago Alcantara combined to help Barcelona thump Rayo Vallecano they were feeling rather pleased with themselves. So pleased, in fact, that they couldn’t contain the samba rhythm within them.

But their impromptu dance class was brought to a premature end when His Curly Highness Carlos Puyol decreed that this was not the week for Barca players to be busting any moves.

Since the Catalan giants have all but surrendered the title, been knocked out of the Champions League and learned that their coach is leaving this week, Puyol was probably correct in spotting that an on-pitch boogie might be misconstrued – and that Rayo fans might not be best pleased either..

Outgoing coach Pep Guardiola agreed with Puyol.

He said: “Thiago-Alves dance celebration? We apologize for it, that’s not the attitude of Barca players. It won’t happen again.”
