We are all used to seeing odd scenes in Italian football, and we know that passions can run high in Serie A, but it would be fair to say that Fiorentina coach Delio Rossi overstepped the mark considerably last night.
After substituting midfielder Adem Ljajic just 32 minutes into his side’s draw at home to Novara, Rossi clearly attacked the player after he sarcastically applauded the decision to withdraw him. Rossi waded in with punches as his staff attempted to hold him back.
The Fiorentina manager was sacked by president Andrea Della Valle, who said:
In a few seconds months of stress came out. I am sorry because the coach has never committed acts of this kind. For his own good to make him understand he has made a mistake I had to take this decision. No provocation justifies this reaction.
I think that much is clear.
