Video: The Great Game – old school information film about football

Posted by - May 10, 2012 - Football videos

This classic film produced by the British Council gives a fascinating insight into football in Britain in the 1940s.

The film looks at the professionals who go into schools to teach football to youngsters, the amateurs who play at the weekend for their local team and the Cup Final: the absolute pinnacle of the game for players and fans alike.

Future England manager Walter Winterbottom (then of Manchester United), and England internationals Reverend Kenneth Hunt (who can be thankful his name wasn’t subjected to the scrutiny of the modern football fan) and Maurice Eddleston are among those coaching in schools.

Thanks to Tim Brookes for the tip.
