Daydreaming about seemingly impossible pairings in football is one of the many pleasures of being a football fan. (We pray every morning for a Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Mario Balotelli striking partnership to one day occur)

Happily, fantasies sometimes become a reality. The two most famous permanent perms in the game collided yesterday when Chelsea’s David Luiz met the iconic former Colombian international Carlos Valderrama.

The afro alliance was forged when Valderrama met Luiz at a signing event in Miami –  the current base for Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States. Luckily for us, the Brazilian defender refused to let the historic meeting go undocumented, quickly taking a snap and uploading it to his twitter account.

Alongside the mesmeric picture above, Luiz commented:

“My dream has come true! My idol Valderrama!”

Notably, David Luiz has form for posing for pictures with bystanders who possess voluminous follicles. Back in November, the playful 25-year-old was snapped with Off The Post podcast member Alex Bryson – a man whose scalp also commonly parades a curly mop.

What an honour for Valderrama to follow in OTP’s footsteps:
