QPR’s Joey Barton set to join League Two team Fleetwood Town

The prolifically infuriating bad boy will be training with Fleetwood Town for at least a week, whilst his regular teammates are rewarded for not concussing the opposition by being served up a relaxing and lucrative tour of Asia.

After elbowing, head-butting and snarling his way to a 12-game ban at the end of last season, Joey Barton is still very much in the dog house at Queens Park Rangers – a rather unappealing doghouse at that… League Two.

Barton confirmed the somewhat humiliating staycation on Twitter yesterday. The midfielder chirped:

“Looking forward to training with Fleetwood Town for the week. Will get a much needed sweat on.

“Fleetwood are a young club going places. 5 promotions already in the last few years. If I help some of their young players, great.”

Barton had been rumoured to be joining the team on a six-month loan deal, so Lancashire may yet have to brace themselves for a full-fat helping of the philosophical brute.

Whatever the case, his insistence yesterday that he still has ‘3 years left at QPR’ wins awards for self-delusion. From what OTP can see, Rangers manager Mark Hughes has metaphorically kicked out Barton from the marital bed and stuck him on the manky garage sofa until the divorce papers can be hurried through.
