The Europa League qualifiers provide an opportunity for some of Europe’s lesser lights to qualify for the group stage to play against teams potentially including Spurs and Inter Milan.
Serbian side Vojvodina certainly made the most of the opportunity with a 2-1 victory over Rapid Vienna, but their late winner owed a great deal to luck and a pesky fan with a whistle.
With the game tied at 1-1, Rapid Vienna’s Lukas Konigshofer came to collect a cross into the box. Thinking he had heard a whistle in the crowd, the keeper rolled the ball out, only for the Vojvodina forward to knock the ball into an unguarded net.
Are fans going to have to be checked for whistles in future?
