With the terrible incident regarding Fabrice Muamba still fresh in the mind, such was the seriousness of the situation, there was understandably significant concern when Lyon’s Mouhamadou Dabo collapsed on the pitch during Thursday’s 2-1 home victory over Sparta Prague.
The injury occurred when the player went up for a header. His head lolled backwards whilst he was in the air, and a Sparta Prague player knocked into him from behind. By the time he hit the ground it seemed as if he was knocked unconscious, and he then proceeded to have a series of writhing convulsions.
Thankfull, as so often with these cases, medical staff were immediately on hand to administer vital treatment, and Dabo was rushed to a nearby hospital. Mercifully, tests revealed that there was no lasting damage, and the player was released from hospital the next day to begin a period of rest.
