Now, I hope that all readers hated the Euro 2012 Mars advert where a man was picked out of the crowd to save some Dutch penalties. It’s cheesiness genuinely made me feel ill.
But, as ever, real life has gone and been more suprising than fiction. When Scotland Ladies took on their Norwegian counterparts in a friendly last week, football fan Sarah Crilly went to watch the game with her friends.
Sarah, who plays for Hamilton Ladies team, was queuing up for a drink at half-time when she was approached my a member of the Scotland coaching staff. The coach explained that Scotland had suffered some injuries during the first half, and asked whether Sarah would consider sitting on the bench during the second half.
Sarah, 20, explained the rest on Twitter:
What a day! Called from the stand to play for the A squad and scored the equaliser with size 5 boots on!!
I was there for a day out with my pals — next thing I know I’m stepping on the park. It was crazy, she added.
I couldn’t believe it when I scored. It was incredible
Yes that’s right, she actually came out of the crowd to score the equaliser.
Ridiculous scenes.
