If you’ve ever wondered how Premier League stars prepare to make their debut for a new club, in Michael Owen’s case the answer appears to be by watching attempted burglaries in your CCTV system.

Owen’s home was targeted on Friday evening before his Stoke City debut against Manchester City the following day. And he took to Twitter to update his followers with commentary and photos as events unfolded.

He tweeted: “Great TV tonight. Been watching some fella on my cameras for an hour weighing up what to nick!

“Police came round while he hid in my woods. They then went and 5 minutes later he runs back to his van and hides in the boot!

“Watched it all laughing my head off as the police returned to drag him out.

“Big thanks to the Police. #topnotch”

Whether the enterprising chap decided Owen was probably preparing for the match in the Potteries rather than manning the CCTV in his north Wales mansion is not yet clear.

Of course, it might have all been an elaborate piece of product placement by Panasonic.
