The talk of it being a groundbreaking moment in football is a bit self-righteous, and the blurb from Patrick Vieira that City are choosing a future in which players break into the first team from the academy is a little rich given that his club has spunked bout £88billion on players in the last four years, but you have to admit it: Manchester City’s new academy is going to be epic.
It resembles something of a football mecca, a theme park for those who excited about grass roots football. And unlike Real Madrid’s island that we featured a few months back, this project will actually benefit the local community.
The £100m complex is spread over an 80-acre site and will include 15 full-size pitches and a 7,000 seater academy stadium that will host uner-21, under-18 and NextGen series matches.
Watch it and salivate.
