It’s difficult to know what sort of a reaction Gael Clichy was expecting from former manager Arsene Wenger ahead of Sunday’s clash between Manchester City and Arsenal.
He must know that Wenger is the grudge-bearing type and that the constant stream of players agitated to quit the Emirates for City or Barcelona is the source of considerable annoyance for the Arsenal boss.
But the left-back wasn’t expecting to be completely blanked by his former gaffer.
Wenger walks down the tunnel without so much as acknowledging Clichy, prompting the defender to tell his team-mates: “It’s only been nine years.”
That refers to the time he spent at Arsenal under Wenger.
