Hibernian have ditched their stadium announcer after he played The Beatles’ track Taxman to mock financially-stricken Edinburgh rivals Hearts.
Cheeky chap Willie Docherty played the song at half-time during last weekend’s televised victory over Dundee United in tribute to the news that their arch-rivals were facing a winding-up order.
The move was no doubt appreciated by many of the Easter Road crowd, but his bosses were not impressed.
A Hibs spokesman said the record had not been sanctioned to be aired by the club and added: “The stadium announcer’s contract has been terminated following a breach of conduct.”
Hibs supporters are already attempting to have the decision overturned, with a #justiceforwilliedocherty Twitter campaign being backed by fans of many other clubs.
