Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester City’s Maicon poke fun at new Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez

After just a few days in the job, it appears to already be open season on Rafa Benitez. Sir Alex Ferguson mocked the Spaniard for being ‘very lucky’ at landing the job and now footage has emerged of old foe Jose Mourinho landing a blow just for good measure.

In the build up to the Manchester City v Real Madrid clash, ‘The Special One’ was caught on camera sharing a joke with his former player Maicon.  The chin-wag in Portuguese shows the former Inter Milan right-back telling his old boss that Rafa Benitez had been appointed as the new Chelsea boss.

Mourinho replied by recommending Benitez should hire Marco Materazzi as his assistant. Zing. The suggestion was a mischievous nod to the combustible relationship between the two. Just a few weeks ago the former Italy international and infamous head-butt recipient said:

“I did not get on well with Benitez. He made me remove pictures of the most important moments of my career with Mourinho and Lippi from my locker. He thought he knew everything, but he was afraid of his own shadow.”

Does Rafa have enough in his own locker to put up with an onslaught of ridicule in the coming weeks? It’s hard to say but at least he can rely on the obligatory honeymoon period from his own fans…oh.
