Lionel Messi may be favourite for the Ballon D’Or and have scored an obscene amount of goals this year, but he still has a fair way to go to catch up with Derek May.
May might well be unbeatable in world football for his goalscoring longevity, and last weekend he scored the 1300th goal of his career.
May, 74, plays for Meridian FC in Kent, and scored a penalty against Borough United in the Southern Vets League Second Division in a 7-1 victory for his side.
The forward has three children and five grandchildren, and started his footballing career in 1954. That’s pretty big chat, but still has nothing on the fact that the pensioner still completes three games a week regularly. Monumental stuff.
