Arsenal will only bring in “exceptional” players during the current transfer window, according to manager Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners boss reiterated that his aims for January were to get players whose contracts are expiring to agree new deals (this doesn’t have to be done in January, Arsene) and to get injured players back to fitness (again, just as soon as they’re ready, Arsene. No need to prioritise it for January).

Wenger said he was looking at signings in January but would only move if he found an exceptional player.

He said: “We still work on the transfer market, of course, but we do not want to bring in average. We want only to bring in the exceptional player and at the moment we have not found him.”
