Former England striker and TV personality Gary Lineker has announced his decision to leave Twitter after her admitted becoming obsessed with the social media site.

The star sent a tweet to his 1.3million followers to make the announcement:

I’m leaving Twitter for personal reasons . Thanks all.

Lineker’s statement led to media rumours of a possible family rift, something he later strongly refuted.

I left Twitter because it tends to take over and I thought I would try life without it. There is absolutely nothing sinister about the decision at all

Just need Joey Barton to do the same now.
