Sunderland’s trip to the Reebok Stadium could best be described using the cliche of ‘a game of two halves’. Sunderland were poor during the first half and the Championship side deservedly led at the break.
It was a lead they doubled when Keith Andrews headed home but, after Connor Wickham had pulled one back for the Mackems, Craig Gardner guaranteed a replay at the Stadium of Light with a superb finish, one which may well go down as the goal of the round.
When the ball was played to him 25 yards out, there was only one thing on the midfielder’s mind as he rasped the ball into the top left-hand corner, giving Adam Bogdan no chance.
That boy sure does enjoy hitting a shot.
