Instant redemption: Jon Walters manages to find the right net to send Stoke to the FA Cup fourth round

After an unimaginably poor performance at the weekend, including two own goals and a missed penalty, Stoke striker Jonathan Walters managed to score two again last night. Luckily this time they were in the right end!

The Potters hitman made amends from his Chelsea disaster to help book his side a home tie against Premier League champions Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round.

Tony Pulis’ side needed extra time to avoid a possible upset but Walters’ brace, along with goals from Kenwyne Jones and Cameron Jerome, allowed them to run out 4-1 winners against Championship opponents Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere, there were two Premier League casualties. Bolton managed to capitalise on Sunderland’s inconsistent form to cause an upset on Wearside. Marvin Sordell grabbed two goals to fire the away side into the next round.

And QPR managed to dump top-flight rivals West Bromwich Albion out of the Cup with a 1-0 victory at The Hawthorns.
