Lazio defender Luciano Zauri abseils down a well to rescue seven-year-old girl
Lazio’s Luciano Zauri rescued a seven-year-old girl who had fallen into a well at a restaurant in Rome.
The defender was lowered inside the well on a rope so that he could save the granddaughter of Polish FA president Zbigniew Boniek.
The girl reportedly fell into the four-metre deep well on Sunday when a cover over it collapsed. Zauri, who was also dining in the restaurant near Ponte Milvio, pulled the child to safety after his abseiling exploits.
Boniek was obviously delighted to hear that Mauri had stepped up to save his granddaughter.
He said: “I heard how brave Zauri was after I spoke with my family and made sure Giulia was OK. I immediately called him and thanked him for saving her life and how I would be grateful forever.”
Giulia was taken to hospital with minor bruises.
