Manchester City move advertising boards to deal with Stoke City’s long throw-ins

Every little helps eh?!

Manchester City comfortably disposed of Stoke on New Year’s Day, with a 3-0 scoreline demonstrating the comfortable nature of the victory.

The fact that Stoke were only credited by Opta with having one shot on target in the entire match could possibly be due to the sneak tactics of the home side, which were caught on camera and showcased via Twitter. It appears that the City ground staff received orders to move the advertising hoardings closer to the touchline in order to negate the impact of the infamous Stoke long throw.

Given that Stoke’s two greatest exponents of the set peice, Rory Delap and Ryan Shotton, both took no part in the match may have meant that the underhand tactic was in vain is another question, but you have to admire the ‘leave no stone unturned’ approach to the fixture.

The pedantry of champions?
