Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer shows off his four-fingered glove

Bayern Munich have pretty much everything going in their favour at the moment. They are fifteen points clear of Borussia Dortmund in second place in the Bundesliga, have a goal difference of +50, have conceded one league goal away from home all season and face an Arsenal side tonight that are still stinging from an FA Cup defeat at home to Blackburn.

Now they are even inventing reasons to give themselves the edge over the opposition. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will wear a four-fingered glove on his right hand, a measure which he believes gives him a stronger hand when making fingertip saves, allowing the ball to be tipped wide of a post rather than past him and into the net.

Given that Bayern have not yet conceded this year (and it’s mid-February!), it will probably bloody work. Wojciech Szczesny should probably invest in those massive gloves that David Seaman wore in a publicity stunt.
