Chelsea fans have been desperately hoping Frank Lampard would be putting pen to paper soon… but not to become an author of children’s books.
The veteran midfielder has agreed a five-book deal with publisher Little Brown. The series, called Frankie’s Magic Football, will be aimed at children aged five and above.
Readers will follow the adventures of school boy Frankie and his football-loving friends, as well as pet dog Max.
Lampard reckons the stories are “loosely based on friends and team mates”.
He said: “I first had the idea of Frankie and his Magic Football when reading stories to my own children.
“Sport and reading are two essentials for us at home, so I decided to make up my own football stories and adventures.”
The England international’s first book, Frankie Versus The Pirate Pillagers, will be published in June.
