GIF it: Gareth Barry’s woeful own goal for Manchester City against Southampton
If you are going to allow your title bid to unravel in February, might as well do it in style.
After Joe Hart’s blunder gave Southampton a 2-0 lead, Gareth Barry decided to take matters into his own hands after Edin Dzeko had tried to get Manchester City back into the game.
The ball was played into the box, where Barry was presented with the ball at his feet. He had more than enough time to turn and clear the ball, but instead inexplicably chose to try and pass the back to Hart. Even more ridiculous was the accuracy of the pass, which nestled nicely into the bottom corner.
I bet Alex Ferguson was giggling with delight.
