Chelsea’s interim manager Rafa Benitez has joked that he expected the club’s supporters to blame him for their current fixture congestion.
The Blues have a busy run-in. They have been playing fixture catch-up for most of the season after a trip to the Club World Cup and a run to the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.
Their draw with Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final clash last weekend means an already tight schedule had to be rearranged to accommodate a replay. But Benitez is in no doubt as to who will be blamed.
He said: “Maybe somebody else will blame me. They will say it’s my fault, because everything is my fault. If something is wrong some people want to blame me, I have to manage this too.
“I will try to lead by example and concentrate on the next game. My job is to be sure that we compete in every competition.”
