A pub fight started after one man told another he looked like Joey Barton, a court heard.
Sean Beckwith, 21, and Maxwell McStravick, 40, admitted using threatening behaviour after Beckwith had told McStravick he looked like the former Newcastle bad-boy while both drank at the Tap and Spile pub in Darlington.
Both men were sentenced to a 12-month community order and ordered to pay costs.
“It’s certain that where I am, there is always a little bit more noise and exaggeration,” Barton said recently.
Playing in Marseille and being able to start fights in Darlington is probably something that only Joey could pull off.
