Bayern Munich have a pretty strong relationship with sportswear manufacturer Adidas. The company is German, they sponsor the club’s kit and even own a 9.2% share in the Bundesliga champions.
It is therefore fairly understandable that Adidas were a little put out when their new £32million signing Mario Gotze was unveiled to the media.
Gotze is sponsored by Adidas’ greatest rivals Nike and turned up to be presented wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the Nike logo. Surprisingly, no-one from the club thought to cover it up.
Adidas soon revealed their unease: “The pictures from today’s press conference with Mario Gotze have negatively surprised us”
“Contractually it is not permissible because it is an official function of Adidas partner Bayern Munich. We have already discussed this with Bayern Munich.”
Slapped wrists all round at the Allianz Arena.
