Legendary Manchester City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann has died.
The 89-year-old was best known for playing on with a broken neck for the final 17 minutes of City’s 1956 FA Cup final victory over Birmingham City.
The German played more than 500 games for City between 1949 and 1964. He had originally arrived in England as a prisoner of war.
He received an honorary OBE for his efforts to build Anglo-German relations after the Second World War..
Trautmann had suffered two heart attacks earlier this year, but passed away unexpectedly in Valencia this morning.
