Karim Benzema’s agent has dismissed reports linking the Real Madrid striker with a move to Arsenal in the current transfer window.
The France international is believed to be Arsene Wenger’s top striking target after missing out on Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain.
But Wenger himself has admitted that the deal would probably be dependent on Real signing Suarez, and now Benzema’s agent has waded in to pour cold water on the deal.
Karim Djaziri told French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche: “We can’t stop the rumours. But I tell you: Karim will not go to Arsenal. It’s never been a question for him and no contact has been made.
“He will stay at Madrid. The probable arrival of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid doesn’t threaten him at all. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale will play on the wings and Karim in the centre.”
That’s a serious blow for Arsenal fans: it’s unlike an agent to talk down a transfer.
It could also be a blow for Swansea fans. Their striker Michu is believed to be the next target on Wenger’s wish-list.
