Liverpool increase Tiago Ilori interest after Sebastian Coates is ruled out for six months
Liverpool will step-up their efforts to sign long-term target Tiago Llori after defender Sebastian Coates was ruled out of action for six months.
Sporting Lisbon centre-back Ilori has been on the Reds’ radar for some time. But their hopes of signing him have been given fresh impetus by Coates’ setback.
Coates tore his anterior cruciate ligament playing for Uruguay in Japan last week and is facing a lengthy layoff.
The Daily Mirror reports that Brendan Rodgers will now move for London-born Portugal Under-20 star Ilori.
Coates’ injury is also likely to be the final nail in the coffin for Martin Skrtel’s hopes of moving to Napoli on loan this season. The Uruguayan had himself been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Fulham reported to be interested.
