Newcastle have ended their interest in Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
The French side’s president Jean-Michael Aulas told L’Equipe that the Magpies are no longer in talks with the France international and urged the player to get his head down to focus on another season at Lyon.
He said: “His circumstances have changed. Newcastle ended talks and we don’t have any other offers.
“The most logical solution would be for everyone to get back down to business and for him to prolong for another year. But there are other factors to consider, most notably what [Lyon boss] Remi Garde wants to do.”
The negotiations had turned rather sour as Gomis and Lyon haggled over his severance package following his involvement in a sex scandal.
In the meantime, the Toon appear to have got fed-up waiting for the two parties to agree on the terms under which the 27-year-old would be allowed to leave.
