Newcastle manager Alan Pardew doesn’t envisage much late transfer activity

Alan Pardew says he isn’t expecting Newcastle to make many more signings before the end of the transfer window – but he is hoping to have another striker at the club for the season ahead.

The Magpies manager has struggled to stay on-message when it has come to supporting new director of football Joe Kinnear’s recruitment drive this summer.

Now, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Juliette Ferrington, he seems to have opted for some honest talking that will allow supporters to make up their own minds.

He said: “I don’t see a lot of late business for us, but I do think we need to get another striker in.”

Toon target Darren Bent has just agreed a season-long loan move to Fulham.

Pardew said the England international “was close in terms of the deal but Darren has decided his future lies elsewhere.”

Well there’s a surprise. Pardspew the puppet towing the company line in coded language. If he had a backbone he would have said ‘Cashley is making a fortune this season and won’t be spending any of it so we won’t be strengthening the squad’.
