Gareth Bale has not turned up for Tottenham training at the end of a club-sanctioned break in Marbella.
The Wales international had been given permission to travel to Spain to stay at his agent’s holiday home. Spurs had instructed the 24-year-old to report for training this morning, but he has failed to do so.
He is back in London but did not arrive at the club’s Spurs Lodge training ground as had been expected.
Bale is keen to join Real Madrid this summer and had been expected to tag finalising the deal onto the end of his Spain trip.
But he returned to London yesterday with Spurs and Real still yet to reach an agreement.
Yesterday, sources at White Hart Lane claimed that a second bidder had moved to sign Bale. If the new bidder is merely a tactic to force up the transfer fee, today’s non-appearance could be viewed as a direct response to that.
Bale’s camp have denied reports that he is “furious and frustrated” by the slow progress of the deal, but his no-show is being seen as a hint that he is prepared to take the Yohan Cabaye approach if necessary.
